This project aims to alleviate residents' daily inconveniences by creating large-scale public parking lots in areas with severe parking shortages such as residential neighborhoods and commercial districts, converting old houses into small parking lots, or supporting facility costs with provincial funds when school or religious facility parking lots are opened to the public for free.

This year, a total project budget of 124.8 billion KRW (16.4 billion KRW from provincial funds and 108.4 billion KRW from city and county funds) will be invested to support ▲the creation of public parking lots in residential and commercial dense areas ▲the establishment of small parking lots in back alleys of residential areas ▲support for free opening of attached parking lots ▲and the construction of a parking information system.

Among these, the ‘Public Parking Lot Creation’ project supports installation costs when creating large-scale public parking lots in commercial and residential dense areas. It will provide 15.699 billion KRW in provincial funds to 16 locations in 12 cities, including Siheung and Pyeongtaek, securing 1,730 parking spaces.

The ‘Small Parking Lot Creation’ project supports installation costs when securing idle land such as old houses and converting it into parking spaces. It will provide 530 million KRW in provincial funds to 6 locations in 4 cities, including Bucheon, Ansan, Uijeongbu, and Pocheon, securing 70 parking spaces.

The ‘Free Opening Support for Parking Lots’ project provides up to 100 million KRW (50 million KRW from provincial funds and 50 million KRW from city and county funds) to cover costs needed for facility improvements when attached parking lots with 20 or more spaces are opened free of charge to local residents for at least 35 hours per week. It will provide 100 million KRW in provincial funds to 2 locations, including Suwon and Anyang, and 143 parking spaces will be opened free of charge.

The ‘Parking Information System Construction’ project supports the costs required to build a system that provides real-time information on available parking spaces through the Gyeonggi Transportation Information Center to private apps and others. It plans to provide parking usage information to the public for 1,064 parking spaces in 8 public parking lots across 3 cities, including Paju, Gunpo, and Anseong, with 144 million KRW in provincial funds.

The target locations are selected by the province after receiving demand applications from cities and counties each project year, and private entities wishing to participate in the free opening of attached parking lots can apply through the respective city or county.

A Gyeonggi Province official stated, “Starting this year, we are actively encouraging cities and counties to operate public parking lots in residential areas free of charge during nighttime hours, and for attached parking lots, we are preventing unauthorized parking outside opening hours by installing parking barriers or assigning safety managers.” He added, “We will continue to strive to ensure that the Parking Environment Improvement Project is carried out efficiently and sustainably to improve parking difficulties.”
