Set to Be Reborn as a 299-Unit Residential Complex by 2029

Approval of Project Implementation for Dongdaemun-gu Sinseol 1 District... Completion of 299 Households in August 2029

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 27th that the Sinseol 1 District (around 92-5 Sinseol-dong) redevelopment project has completed the business implementation plan approval, becoming the first public redevelopment project in Seoul as well as nationwide to do so.

Sinseol 1 District was designated as a maintenance zone in 2008, and the project officially began in 2021 when the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) was selected as the project implementer. After completing the integrated review of the maintenance project in August 2024, the business implementation plan approval was applied for on October 31 of the same year, completing the approval process in just four months.

Notably, Sinseol 1 District is the first case among Seoul’s public redevelopment projects to undergo an integrated review covering architecture, landscape, and education fields, drawing attention for enhancing the speed and efficiency of the maintenance project through the shortened business implementation plan approval process.

The area will feature 299 residential units in a 24-story above-ground and 2-story underground apartment complex, along with auxiliary welfare facilities, neighborhood living facilities, and community spaces for residents such as a senior citizens’ center, a small library, and an indoor fitness facility.

The corporation aims to obtain management disposition plan approval by 2026, with construction starting in 2027 and completion and move-in planned for August 2029. Adjacent to Sinseoldong Station, Sinseol 1 District is expected to be reborn as an attractive residential complex within an excellent transportation environment and a pleasant natural environment harmonized with Seongbukcheon Stream.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Through this public redevelopment, we expect to contribute to improving residents’ quality of life and revitalizing the local economy by quickly providing a pleasant and safe residential environment within the station area,” adding, “We will continue to lead housing stability and urban development through ongoing institutional improvements and administrative support.”
