Ulsan City Selected for 'Digital Transformation Capacity Building Project'... Secures 2.376 Billion KRW in National Funding

Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency Selected as the Sole National Operating Organization
Fostering Digital Transformation Professionals Through Industry-Specific, Practical Training

Ulsan City has secured 2.376 billion KRW in national funding as the Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency was selected as the operating organization for the "2025 Digital Transformation Capacity Building Project," which is overseen by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency.

The "Digital Transformation Capacity Building Project" is a government initiative aimed at fostering professionals required for digital transformation through industry-specific, practical training, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as mid-sized companies in smoothly driving digital innovation.

For this round of selection, only one operating organization was chosen to implement the project nationwide, and the Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency was ultimately selected. Previously, this project had always been operated in the Seoul metropolitan area.

With Ulsan now taking charge of the project, digital transformation education and consulting, which had been concentrated in the metropolitan area, can now be actively promoted in Ulsan, a city dense with manufacturing industries. This is expected to serve as an opportunity to accelerate digital innovation in the region's industries and establish a systematic support foundation.

This project will be led by the Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency, with participation from the AI Innovation Park of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and the Korea Standards Association, aiming to train a total of 380 digital transformation professionals.

The project plans to support 28 SMEs and mid-sized companies nationwide, along with 280 employees, by providing education on artificial intelligence and data utilization, as well as customized digital transformation (DX) consulting through the "Industry-tailored Innovation Voucher" program. Additionally, the "Digital Transformation Expert Training Program" will foster 100 digital transformation experts capable of industrial data analysis and utilizing digital new technologies.

In particular, while previous programs focused on ICT industry professionals, Ulsan's program is differentiated by including training courses for workers and retirees from key manufacturing sectors such as automotive, shipbuilding, and chemical industries, aiming to produce practical digital transformation experts for the field.

Furthermore, Ulsan City will invest an additional 500 million KRW of its own budget to support eight more local companies through the "Industry-tailored Innovation Voucher" project, and will actively work to establish a Ulsan-style digital transformation ecosystem based on this foundation.

A city official stated, "Through this 'Digital Transformation Capacity Building Project,' we plan to continuously support the digital innovation of local companies in connection with the government's industrial digital transformation policy," adding, "We expect that the experts trained through this project will lead the digital transformation of local industries and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector."
