The average assets of 31 mayors and county heads in Gyeonggi Province amounted to approximately 1.47 billion KRW, showing a decrease of 89 million KRW on average compared to the previous year.
The Government Public Officials Ethics Committee disclosed on the 27th, through the official gazette, the regular asset change reports of 31 mayors and county heads in the province as of the end of December 2024.
The average assets of the 31 mayors and county heads in the province were 1.47749 billion KRW, a decrease of 89.43 million KRW (5.7%) compared to the reported amount as of the end of December 2023.
By asset size, ▲6 individuals (19.4%) had 2 billion KRW or more ▲13 individuals (41.9%) had between 1 billion and 2 billion KRW ▲10 individuals (32.3%) had between 500 million and 1 billion KRW ▲1 individual (3.2%) had between 100 million and 500 million KRW ▲1 individual (3.2%) had less than 100 million KRW.
Compared to the reported amounts at the end of 2023, 22 of these mayors and county heads saw an increase, while 9 saw a decrease.
The wealthiest individual was Mayor Maxho An-yang, who reported assets of 5.06735 billion KRW, continuing from last year.
Compared to the previous year's reported amount (5.16323 billion KRW), his assets decreased by 95.87 million KRW due to a decline in the valuation of unlisted stocks owned by himself and a reduction in bonds owned by his spouse, but he still held the largest assets among the mayors and county heads in the province.
Following him were Mayor Sang-il Lee of Yongin (4.9179 billion KRW), Mayor Kwon-jae Lee of Osan (2.77529 billion KRW), Mayor Young-hyun Baek of Pocheon (2.70765 billion KRW), Mayor Kyung-hyun Baek of Guri (2.47762 billion KRW), and Mayor Kwang-duk Joo of Namyangju (2.45301 billion KRW).
Mayor Sang-il Lee of Yongin had the largest increase among the 22 mayors and county heads whose assets grew, with an increase of 449.77 million KRW. He cited changes in the value of an apartment owned by his spouse and partial repayment of his spouse's debt as reasons for the change.
Mayor Seong-je Kim of Uiwang reported the largest decrease, with assets dropping by 4.38771 billion KRW (85%) from the previous reported amount of 5.16101 billion KRW to 773.3 million KRW.
Mayor Kim's office explained that to resolve unnecessary controversy regarding unlisted stocks owned by his spouse, which were temporarily overvalued on paper at approximately 4.41 billion KRW, all 1,800 shares were sold at the face value of 9 million KRW.
Earlier, in response to related controversies, Mayor Kim explained in November of last year with the same intention and stated that there was no financial gain from these stocks.
