A military facility protection zone refers to an area designated by the Minister of National Defense under the Military Bases and Military Facilities Protection Act to protect military bases and facilities and to facilitate smooth military operations.
According to Cheorwon-gun on the 26th, the Sinbeol district (Wasuri, Unjang-ri, Sagok-ri) has been downgraded from a controlled protection zone to a restricted protection zone, alleviating inconveniences related to farming and village access, and ensuring residents' property rights, thereby allowing construction activities.
Earlier, in January, the Goseokjeong tourist district in Cheorwon was eased from a restricted protection zone to a conditional consultation delegation, and in December last year, the planned site for the Food Support Center (Munhye-ri 690 and others) was changed from a restricted protection zone to conditional consent under consultation delegation, easing construction height restrictions.
Governor Lee Hyun-jong stated, “The easing of military regulations in key areas such as Sinbeol district, Goseokjeong tourist district, and the Food Support Center will be an important turning point for regional development,” adding, “It is expected that living conditions will greatly improve as local residents’ property rights are restored.”
