Kim Kyung-ho, the mayor of Gwangjin District, will continue his communication efforts in 2025 through the “School Front Communication” initiative, where he listens directly to the vivid voices from the field.

“School Front Communication” has established itself as a field-centered communication administration where the mayor visits schools to listen to suggestions from students, parents, and staff, aiming to gather opinions for improving the educational environment and resolving local community issues.

The first visit this year began on the 14th at Gwangjin Elementary School. Mayor Kim Kyung-ho personally inspected the safety conditions of the school commuting routes and met with children on their way home, parents who came to pick them up, and nearby residents to hear various opinions and discuss improvement directions together.

This “School Front Communication” will be conducted sequentially at 18 elementary schools in the district around 1 p.m., the time when children leave school, until April.

Last year, as a result of operating the “School Front Communication Outing” at 19 schools, a total of 77 opinions were received. Some of these were forwarded to the relevant departments, reviewed, and either immediately addressed or incorporated as mid- to long-term tasks to be continuously reviewed and pursued.

Among the received opinions, improvements to the educational environment accounted for the largest share at 56%, followed by safety issues such as traffic management around commuting routes at 26%, and other living complaints like cleaning around schools at 17%.

At elementary schools, there was a high interest in children’s safety, including traffic safety guidance on commuting routes and safety issues on the way to and from school. At middle and high schools, many opinions were related to improving school sports facilities for physical activities, cracking down on illegal parking, and installing traffic safety facilities.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin District said, “Through sincere communication with parents, we will continuously cooperate with related organizations such as the Office of Education to improve aging educational facilities and secure safe commuting routes. We will cherish the diverse opinions and ideas from the field and do our best to ensure a healthy and happy school life for children, the future leaders of the next generation.”
