Gwangju University (President Kim Dongjin) announced on the 26th that it has introduced, for the first time among domestic universities, an AI platform-based course in collaboration with the global cloud service company Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Starting from the first semester of the 2025 academic year, the ‘AI Makers’ course will be offered as a basic liberal arts subject for all freshmen. The course goes beyond theoretical knowledge of artificial intelligence, providing practical, hands-on education that enables students to understand and utilize AI systems and tools. Through this, students will acquire AI literacy and develop the ability to use artificial intelligence critically. Gwangju University plans to foster professional talent to lead the AI era through this groundbreaking educational innovation.

The 'AI Makers' class, in collaboration with AWS?the world’s most comprehensive and widely adopted cloud platform?will cover not only AI-related services but also the recently launched generative AI application development platform, ‘Partyrock.’ Additionally, students will use Slack, a comprehensive collaboration platform that goes beyond just a work messenger, to communicate in real time with instructors and peers, submit assignments, and carry out AI-related projects.

Furthermore, students will learn to use Canva, an online design platform that enables the creation of high-quality visual materials without specialized design knowledge, to produce AI-related content and presentation materials. In particular, in collaboration with AWS, the university will jointly develop an academic administration bot, allowing students to apply the AI technologies learned in class to actual on-campus systems and produce tangible educational outcomes. This will also provide students with valuable project experience linked to real-world industry settings.

By providing various AI-based support tools for the class, students will gain firsthand experience with the latest AI tools, helping them build practical skills necessary for designing and developing AI applications.

President Kim Dongjin stated, "We are entering an era where mastering even a single tool can lead to recognition and success in society. By integrating the latest, rapidly evolving corporate technology platforms into our lectures, our core goal is to help all freshmen adapt safely and effectively to an AI-driven and digitalized world, foster creative problem-solving abilities, and achieve academic success through this educational program."

He added, "Gwangju City is making every effort to establish an AI industry cluster and concentrate related enterprises. Gwangju University will spare no effort in supporting the AI professionals we nurture, so they can play a key role in strengthening Gwangju City's position as a leading 'AI city.'"
