The Democratic Party of Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly urged the Constitutional Court to immediately deliver the impeachment verdict on Yoon Seok-yeol, questioning how long the court will continue to delay the ruling.
On the 26th, the Democratic Party of the Provincial Assembly issued a statement titled ‘Immediately Deliver the Impeachment Verdict on Yoon Seok-yeol,’ stating, "How long will the impeachment verdict be postponed?" and pointed out, "It has been over a month since the final arguments in the Yoon Seok-yeol impeachment case concluded, yet the verdict date has not even been set, causing public anger toward the Constitutional Court to reach its peak."
They continued, "The Constitutional Court has even abandoned its principle of prioritizing the handling of Yoon Seok-yeol’s impeachment trial," and questioned, "If this is not dereliction of duty, then what is it?"
In particular, they added, "While the Constitutional Court keeps delaying the impeachment verdict, national governance is paralyzed, and the chaos in the Republic of Korea is reaching its peak," and "414 writers, including Nobel Literature Prize laureate Han Kang, have issued a statement urging a prompt impeachment verdict."
Through the statement, they appealed that "an urgent impeachment verdict from the Constitutional Court is essential to overcome the crisis and decline in status both inside and outside the Republic of Korea," and "speed now directly relates to justice."
Furthermore, the Democratic Party said, "The Constitutional Court is the last bastion for upholding the Constitution and democracy," and "it must not waver due to political considerations, and the dismissal of Yoon Seok-yeol is the only way to end the paralysis and chaos in national governance and to protect the constitutional order and democracy."
