"National Emergency... Focusing All Efforts on Recovery Support Activities"

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, announced on the 26th that a Wildfire Disaster Special Committee would be formed and immediately activated as the wildfire in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk rapidly spread for the fifth consecutive day.


On the same day, Kwon wrote on social media (SNS), "We will immediately enter an emergency wildfire response system in this unprecedented national emergency," adding, "Starting with donations from members of the National Assembly, we will focus all our efforts on practical recovery support activities."

The government issued a nationwide wildfire disaster national crisis alert at the 'Severe' level at 4 p.m. on the 25th. As the wildfire in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk spread to the northern region, the confirmed death toll has reached 16 so far.


Kwon emphasized, "There can be no distinction between ruling and opposition parties when it comes to protecting the lives and safety of the people," and earnestly called for bipartisan cooperation from all political circles.


He urged affiliated lawmakers to actively support the victims. He said, "Lawmakers from the wildfire-affected and nearby areas should prioritize wildfire prevention, securing residents' safety, and supporting disaster victims," adding, "Please be especially careful not to interfere with the on-site activities of firefighting and rescue authorities, and actively cooperate and coordinate with local governments and related agencies when necessary."
