Jeollanam-do announced on the 26th that the province has shown promising signs of achieving its goal of becoming the top region in the nation for low-carbon agricultural product certification, a target set this year to secure an early lead in the low-carbon agricultural market.
According to the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency, in the first half of this year, Jeollanam-do's newly certified application area reached 4,714 hectares, accounting for 80% of the nationwide total of 5,888 hectares.
This figure amounts to 103% of Jeollanam-do's target for the nation's largest low-carbon certification area this year, which was set at 6,160 hectares (1,660 hectares existing, 4,500 hectares new).
For farms applying for certification, the final candidates will be selected through a document review in March, followed by on-site verification of carbon reduction technology implementation and low-carbon agriculture consulting starting in April, with certificates to be issued in August.
Kim Youngseok, Director of Eco-friendly Agriculture at Jeollanam-do, said, "As value-driven consumption of green products spreads due to climate change, it is urgent to secure a leading position in the low-carbon agricultural market," adding, "We will strengthen cooperation with ESG-focused companies, local governments in the Seoul metropolitan area, and specialized distributors to secure stable sales channels."
