The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) announced on the 26th that it held the "Korea-Ukraine Reconstruction Cooperation Forum" jointly with the Ukraine Chamber of Commerce and the Korea-Ukraine New Building Association at the Trade Tower in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 25th.

This forum was held on the occasion of the visit of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce delegation to Korea. The Ukrainian delegation consisted of about 40 members, including the Ukraine Chamber of Commerce as the core, local government and non-governmental organization (NGO) officials, and 27 local companies and institutions. The delegation visited Korea with the purpose of revitalizing business between the two countries, including cooperation in reconstruction with Korean companies.


About 170 people attended the forum, including Yoon Jin-sik, Chairman of KITA, Valeriy Korol, Vice Chairman of the Ukraine Chamber of Commerce, Lee Yang-gu, Chairman of the Korea-Ukraine New Building Association, and Dmytro Ponomarenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to Korea, showing high interest in Ukraine's reconstruction projects. About 100 Korean companies also participated.


In his opening remarks, Chairman Yoon said, "The friendly relations maintained between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties will be an important foundation for cooperation plans to rebuild Ukraine," adding, "If Ukraine's will for economic revival and Korea's resilience, which has risen from the pain of war, are combined, economic cooperation between the two countries can achieve more meaningful results than ever before."


Vice Chairman Valeriy Korol said in his welcoming speech, "Korea's experience of overcoming numerous crises in the past and achieving economic growth is a very valuable case for Ukraine, which is promoting national reconstruction," and added, "We expect active cooperation between the two countries in areas such as infrastructure reconstruction including roads and energy facilities, industrial technology innovation, and modernization of agricultural facilities. In addition, we hope to expand cooperation with Korea in various fields such as industrial complex development, technology cluster establishment, and educational initiatives."


The forum was held in two sessions covering business cooperation opportunities and cases between the two countries by sector, trends in Ukraine's reconstruction projects, and cooperation plans between the two countries. Korea Water Resources Corporation introduced cases of ongoing reconstruction projects such as the development of Korean-style convergence industrial cities and modernization of water supply facilities, and Lawyer Seo Yong-hee from Kim & Chang Law Firm explained financing methods when participating in Ukraine's reconstruction.


Kang Ki-woong, Vice President of iToxxi, who attended the forum, emphasized the importance of building partnerships with local companies from the early stages of reconstruction projects, stating, "I hope there will be more opportunities like this event to directly interact with Ukrainian companies."


Meanwhile, at the forum, KITA and the Ukraine Chamber of Commerce also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen support for companies from both countries in Ukraine's reconstruction projects. Additionally, during the business networking session held after the forum, companies from various industries in both countries met to explore opportunities for mutual cooperation.
