Parking Lot Ordinance Amendment Passes Standing Committee
Kim Sooyoung: "Further parking fee reductions possible for traditional markets"
Aims to support merchants amid economic difficulties and competition from large malls
The "Partial Amendment Ordinance of the Gwangju Seo-gu Parking Lot Ordinance," proposed by Kim Sooyoung, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, during the 329th extraordinary session, passed the relevant standing committee on the 21st.
According to Kim on the 25th, the proposed ordinance stipulates that "in the case of traditional markets, reduced parking fees may be charged for traditional market parking lots in accordance with Article 2 of the Special Act on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts and Article 3-2 of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Parking Lot Ordinance."
Kim stated, "Last month, with the amendment of the parking lot ordinance in Gwangju, it became possible to further reduce the parking fees at traditional markets, in addition to the existing 50% discount," and added, "I hope that this reduction in parking fees can offer some comfort to traditional market merchants during these economically challenging times, which are even tougher than during the COVID-19 period."
She further commented, "As the opening of large shopping malls nearby may pose challenges for traditional markets, I hope that the reduction in parking fees will help revitalize the markets, even if only a little."
