Sandangong saves 790,000 A4 sheets in one year... reduces carbon emissions by 2.27 tons

Joint Tree-Planting Event with Companies Participating in the Gyeongbuk Pohang Smart Green Industrial Complex Energy Self-Sufficiency Project

The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation has been expanding its carbon-neutral management since declaring a paperless practice in November 2023. Recently, it measured the greenhouse gas emissions of its Daegu headquarters building based on internationally accepted standards, establishing a benchmark for the organization's carbon reduction efforts.

From November 2023 to January of this year, the Corporation announced on the 25th that through paperless practices such as ▲promoting electronic reporting and evaluation ▲reducing office multifunction devices (a 39% decrease), it saved approximately 790,000 sheets of A4 paper, resulting in a reduction of 2.27 tons of carbon emissions.

Additionally, based on the internationally accepted ISO14064-1 standard, the greenhouse gas emissions of the Daegu headquarters building for 2023 were measured in February this year. Going forward, this will serve as a baseline to expand the organization's carbon reduction efforts across all its workplaces.

This year, the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation will continue to promote digital transformation initiatives including ▲implementing digital electronic contracts ▲developing its own Robotic Process Automation (RPA) system ▲expanding mobile work environments ▲measuring carbon emissions of regional headquarters buildings.

On the same day, a tree-planting event to expand carbon sinks was held around Dongkuk Steel in the Pohang National Industrial Complex with participating companies from the Gyeongbuk Pohang Smart Green Industrial Complex energy self-sufficiency project. About 50 executives and employees from tenant companies attended the event and planted around 100 trees, including Western Thuja and Golden Locust, which have excellent carbon absorption capabilities.

In the Gyeongbuk Pohang Smart Green Industrial Complex, power infrastructure such as 14MW solar power, small wind turbines, and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) will be established through the energy self-sufficiency project. Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of tenant company factories to supply eco-friendly power to the industrial complex.

Lee Sang-hoon, Chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, stated, "From small efforts that can be practiced inside the office to planting trees in the industrial complex and expanding solar power on tenant company factory roofs, we will fulfill our social responsibility for a carbon-neutral industrial complex." He added, "The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation will continue to expand eco-friendly management by continuously discovering tasks that can reduce carbon emissions at the organizational level."
