‘Kim Yun-gyeom Pil Yeongnam Gihaeng Hwacheop’ Selected as a National Treasure Depicting 18th-Century Yeongnam Landmarks
Sequential Exhibition and Various Promotional Events Planned for Museum and Art Museum Week
Seokdang Museum at Dong-A University has been selected as a final participant in the “2025 Museum and Art Museum Week 'Museum×Meet' Project,” hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Museum Association.
This project aims to discover the cultural assets and hidden stories held by museums and art museums across the country, branding the cultural value of their collections and sharing them with the public.
This year’s theme for the competition is “The First, and the Beginning,” with 50 works from 50 museums and art museums nationwide selected, including Seokdang Museum.
The representative artifact Seokdang Museum will showcase for this project is the nationally designated treasure “Kim Yun-gyeom Pil Yeongnam Gihaeng Hwacheop.”
Kim Yun-gyeom Pil Yeongnam Gihaeng Hwacheop is a collection of 14 landscape paintings by Joseon Dynasty artist Kim Yun-gyeom, who traveled through the Yeongnam region and vividly depicted its famous sites and natural scenery of the time.
In particular, the album features Yeongnam’s renowned sites such as Taejongdae, Morundae, and Yeonggadae in Busan, Hongryudong at Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon, and Hwanajeong in Sancheong, all painted over 250 years ago, making it a valuable historical resource for comparing past and present landscapes.

As the season depicted in the paintings is presumed to be spring, the exhibition aligns with Museum Week, which is held globally every May. The artwork also gained attention after being featured on tvN’s “Handsome Guys” last December, and is expected to draw even more interest through this project.
Seokdang Museum plans to exhibit “Kim Yun-gyeom Pil Yeongnam Gihaeng Hwacheop” in its calligraphy and painting gallery this May. The exhibition will introduce the paintings in a relay format according to the pages of the album, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing landmarks of Yeongnam on a regular basis.
To assist visitors’ understanding, Seokdang Museum will place nameplates and information stickers throughout the exhibition space, and a related video providing deeper insight into the background and meaning of the artwork will be screened at the entrance.
Additionally, Seokdang Museum will conduct various promotional activities alongside the exhibition to help more visitors appreciate the value of the artwork.
Director Kim Kisoo stated, “Kim Yun-gyeom’s unique painting style not only vividly records the nature of over 250 years ago, but also conveys the inspiration of real scenery through his brushwork even today. The beauty of nature in his works will further highlight the connection with regional tourism, offering visitors a new perspective to experience the history and landscapes of the Yeongnam region.”
Visiting hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except on Mondays and public holidays. For more information, please visit the Dong-A University Seokdang Museum website or contact the museum by phone.
