Democrats to Pursue Impeachment of Choi Sang-mok to the End... "Dismissal Is Inevitable"

Democratic Party Holds Strategy Meeting at Gwanghwamun Tent Office on the 25th
Park Chan-dae: "Choi Sang-mok Faces More Serious Grounds for Impeachment Than Han Deok-su"

Despite the dismissal of the impeachment of Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-su (hereinafter Acting Prime Minister Han), opposition parties continue to issue daily threats that the impeachment process against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok (hereinafter Deputy Prime Minister Choi) will persist.

On the 25th, at the Democratic Party's tent office in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, raised his voice, saying, "Deputy Prime Minister Choi has more serious grounds for impeachment than Acting Prime Minister Han," and added, "Even in light of the Constitutional Court's recent decision, he cannot avoid dismissal." He further stated, "I hope he realizes that all actions come with responsibility."

Earlier, on the 21st, the five opposition parties including the Democratic Party filed an impeachment motion against Deputy Prime Minister Choi on charges including ▲complicity in the December 3rd insurrection ▲non-appointment of Ma Eun-hyuk as Constitutional Court Justice candidate ▲non-appointment of Ma Yong-ju as Supreme Court Justice candidate ▲refusal to request the nomination of candidates for the permanent special prosecutor.

Floor leader Park said, "The Constitutional Court ruled that not appointing the three Constitutional Court Justices recommended by the National Assembly was illegal," and added, "It also decided that Acting Prime Minister Han's failure to appoint Justice Ma was unconstitutional, and today marks the 26th day since that judgment." This supports the sufficiency of the grounds for Acting Prime Minister Han's impeachment through the results of his impeachment trial and the Constitutional Court's decision.

He emphasized that now that Acting Prime Minister Han has returned to his acting position, unresolved issues must be addressed immediately. Park said, "If Prime Minister Han does not appoint Justice Ma immediately, it constitutes grounds for dismissal," and strongly urged, "We demand the appointment be made today."

He also stated, "Acting Prime Minister Han must promptly carry out the requests for candidate nominations for the permanent special prosecutors on the insurrection, Kim Geon-hee, and drug investigations in accordance with the law."

Furthermore, Floor Leader Park strongly urged the Constitutional Court to promptly deliver a verdict on the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-youl. He said, "Since the verdict on Acting Prime Minister Han has been concluded, there is no reason for the Constitutional Court to delay the verdict on President Yoon, the ringleader of the insurrection," and added, "The verdict should be delivered immediately, even as soon as tomorrow."

He noted, "Today marks the 113th day since the December 3rd insurrection occurred, the 102nd day since the impeachment motion was passed, and the 29th day since the conclusion of the impeachment trial hearings," and warned, "The longer the verdict is delayed, the more the Constitutional Court's credibility and authority will inevitably be damaged."
