Seoul Subway Line 7 Extended to Pocheon... Groundbreaking for 'Okjeong~Pocheon Line'

Phase 2 of the Dobongsan-Pocheon Line
Aiming for Opening in 2030
Expected to Address Transportation Disparities in Northern Gyeonggi

Seoul Subway Line 7 will be extended to Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province. This is expected to alleviate long-standing traffic congestion in the northern Gyeonggi region.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee announced on the 25th that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Okjeong-Pocheon Metropolitan Railroad' near Okjeong Lake Park in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province on the 26th, officially starting construction.

The 'Okjeong-Pocheon Line' is the second phase of the Dobongsan-Pocheon Line. It connects a total of 16.9 km from Goeup, Yangju City to Gunnae-myeon, Pocheon City. Four stations and one train depot will be built. The total project cost is 1.5067 trillion KRW. The target opening year is 2030.

Once the Dobongsan-Pocheon Line railway is completed, the travel time for residents of Pocheon and Yangju to Seoul Dobongsan Station will be reduced from 62 minutes by bus to under 38 minutes. With shorter commuting times, travel convenience will greatly improve. Gyeonggi Province expects this to ease traffic congestion in the northern Gyeonggi area and promote balanced regional development.

The construction will be divided into three sections. Section 1 covers 4.9 km from Goeup, Yangju to Yuljeong. Section 2 spans 6.3 km from Yuljeong to Seondan, Pocheon, and Section 3 covers 5.8 km from Seondan to Gunnae. Gyeonggi Province plans to complete the start of construction for all sections by the first half of this year.

Kang Hee-eop, Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee, said, "This will be a turning point for dramatically improving transportation in the relatively inconvenient northern Gyeonggi area within the metropolitan area." He added, "The government will continue national funding support to ensure the 2030 opening is not delayed and will also promote public transportation measures such as expanding metropolitan transfer centers, congested road expansions, and the K-Pass system."
