Dongseo University Department of Radiological Science Students Achieve Success with Selection of Two Teams for the Female Graduate Student Engineering Research Team Support Program

The Department of Radiological Science and the Graduate School's Department of Convergence Radiological Science, Radiological Imaging Optimization Laboratory (supervising professor: Yoon Yongsoo) at Dongseo University (President: Jang Jeguk) have had a total of two teams selected for the general track of the '2025 Female Graduate Student Engineering Research Team Support Program' organized by the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET) under the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The general track of the Female Graduate Student Engineering Research Team Support Program is a nationwide competitive project in which only 50 teams are selected throughout the country. The program brings together female graduate students, undergraduates, and middle and high school students to form teams and conduct research together.

In the midst of such high competition, the selection of two teams from the same laboratory is considered a testament to the laboratory's excellent research capabilities and its achievements in nurturing female engineering talent.

This program, organized by WISET, is designed to have outstanding female graduate students serve as research leaders and mentors, guiding undergraduate team members while also conducting self-directed research and development. The aim is to enhance research capabilities and leadership, and to support the advancement of female students into their respective fields of study.

For this project, the research team led by graduate student Moon Inkyung (Department of Convergence Radiological Science, master's program), titled "AI-based Detection and Quantitative Analysis of Cardiomegaly Using Postmortem Computed Tomography" (team members: Oh Hyobi and Chae Seoyoon, both fourth-year students in the Department of Radiological Science), and the research team led by graduate student Izzati Lia Wilda (Department of Convergence Radiological Science, master's program), titled "Evaluation of Morphological Characteristics of Korean Paranasal Sinuses Using Postmortem Computed Tomography for Forensic Anthropological Personal Identification" (team members: Wi Suan, fourth-year student, and Hwang Eunbin, third-year student, both in the Department of Radiological Science), will conduct their research from April to October.

Moon Inkyung stated, "Through the 'Forensic Radiological Imaging' course I took as an undergraduate, I became interested in the field of forensic image analysis. In particular, I am very pleased to take on the challenge of research on quantitative evaluation and automated analysis of cardiomegaly using postmortem computed tomography. I am happy to have the opportunity to lead the team as the research leader and to conduct successful research together with my team members."

Professor Yoon Yongsoo commented, "The simultaneous selection of two teams from one laboratory is the result of the members' passion and research capabilities. I am delighted that the efforts of Dongseo University's Department of Radiological Science to nurture world-class radiological research talent have borne fruit."
