The Story of Jeongjo Outside the Exhibition Hall... Geumcheon-gu Operates the 'Moving Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall'

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that from March to December, it will operate the "Moving Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall" to allow residents to easily access historical culture.

The "Moving Exhibition Hall" is a program where curators from the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall and local resident narrators visit residents directly to vividly convey the value of Siheung Haenggung and the local history. It is conducted in two formats: "Reading Siheung Haenggung History through Paintings" and "Visiting Siheung Haenggung Curator."

"Reading Siheung Haenggung History through Paintings" is a program targeting neighborhood community leaders, explaining the history of Siheung Haenggung depicted in the "Hwanohaengryeoldo" (Royal Procession Painting) through vivid storytelling. By delivering the historical background and significance related to Siheung Haenggung through paintings, it provides an opportunity to reflect on the historical identity of Geumcheon.

Starting from March 21 at Gasan-dong Community Center, the program will be held 10 times until December at various neighborhood community centers.

"Visiting Siheung Haenggung Curator" will be held in the second half of the year at events such as residents' general meetings where many residents gather. A promotional booth will be operated where visitors can watch videos on tablet PCs themed on King Jeongjo's filial piety and spirit of caring for the people.

Interested residents can participate in the program free of charge by visiting the neighborhood community centers according to the schedule without separate application.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "Siheung Haenggung is an important historical and cultural asset of Geumcheon-gu. We will inherit King Jeongjo’s spirit of caring for the people, who sought direct communication with the people through gyeokjaeng (a traditional dispute resolution), by reinterpreting it as a modern grassroots democracy spirit. We plan to continue operating various programs that share and develop the region’s history and culture with residents."

Meanwhile, the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall (6th floor, 24-gil 6, Geumha-ro) is a space commemorating the historical significance of Siheung Haenggung, where King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty stayed during his royal procession to Hwaseong Haenggung. It opened in 2022 and operates various exhibitions and educational programs.
