Gokseong County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that it had concluded a three-day event to distribute trees to residents in different regions to commemorate the 80th Arbor Day.
The county divided the regions and held the events as follows: the Seokgok area on the 20th at 2 p.m. at Seokgok-myeon Community Center; the Gokseong area on the 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at Gokseong-eup Ttukbang Market; and the Okgwa area on the 24th at 2 p.m. at Satto-gol Culture Center.
The county distributed three trees per person, including species such as Hydrangea, Redbud, Daphne, Golden Euonymus, Spindle Tree, and Thuja, to 1,500 people including residents and tourists, on a first-come, first-served basis.
County Governor Cho Sangrae said, "I did not expect such high participation and enthusiasm from the residents. I hope the 'Own Your Tree' event, held in celebration of Arbor Day, will serve as an opportunity to participate in carbon neutrality and to appreciate the value of forests," adding, "We will continue our efforts to raise awareness of the importance of forests, which serve as a place of rest and relaxation in our lives."
