The Ulsan Office of Education supports ecological and environmental education to help students naturally develop a sense of community, proper character, and ecological sensitivity as democratic citizens by cultivating crops in school gardens.
Since 2020, the Ulsan Office of Education has been promoting the school garden distribution project, supporting the creation of various types of school gardens tailored to each school's characteristics, such as open-field, framed, box-type (indoor, rooftop, classroom), and bag-type gardens.
This year, the office selected 14 new schools through an application process and will provide 2 million KRW to each. Additionally, 40 existing schools will receive approximately 1.5 million KRW each in operating funds.
On the 24th, the Ulsan Office of Education held a “School Garden Distribution Project Compost Support Delivery Ceremony” in the reception room, attended by Superintendent Cheon Changsoo, Lee Jongsam, Head of Ulsan Central Association Ulsan Branch, and Baek Changhun, Head of Nonghyup Bank Ulsan Branch.
Since signing a business agreement with the Ulsan Office of Education in 2020, Ulsan Nonghyup has provided annual funding and supplies, supporting a total of 135 million KRW, 1,132 bags of compost, and 1,200 companion plants through last year. This year, they delivered a fund of 20 million KRW and compost worth 5 million KRW.
This year, the Ulsan Office of Education will promote ecological and environmental action activities involving students, classes, schools, and the local community through the “100-Day Practice to Lower the Earth's Temperature by 1.5°C” program. The office also plans to strengthen school garden management capabilities in cooperation with environmental education institutions such as the Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center and the Wildflower Learning Center.
