Awarded the Prime Minister's Commendation
Haenam County in Jeonnam Province (Governor Myung Hyun Kwan) has been selected as the top institution in the 2024 Active Administration Comprehensive Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, ranking first among all counties nationwide.
According to the county on the 24th, the Active Administration Comprehensive Evaluation targets 243 local governments across the country and awards those that have achieved outstanding results in activating active administration and improving systems throughout 2024, as measured by public satisfaction and perceived effectiveness.
For five categories and 17 detailed indicators, a comprehensive evaluation panel of private experts and a citizen evaluation group selected a total of 73 outstanding local governments (5 metropolitan and 68 basic local governments), which make up the top 30%.
Notably, after being selected as an outstanding institution for two consecutive years, Haenam County has once again demonstrated its administrative excellence by achieving the top national ranking this year. The county received high marks in various areas, including systematic operation of the active administration system, discovery of exemplary cases and tangible results, and provision of resident-tailored services.
Among these, the project to create a tropical fruit demonstration research complex by utilizing dormant closed schools drew significant attention as an innovative case of leveraging local resources. This initiative was recognized as a model of active administration for revitalizing the local economy and enhancing agricultural competitiveness by making use of idle spaces.
Governor Myung Hyun Kwan stated, "Being selected as the top institution is the result of the dedication of public officials who have practiced creative and proactive administration with residents as the highest priority, as well as the wholehearted support of the community. We will continue to provide practical and tangible administrative services that reflect the voices of our residents."
Building on this achievement, Haenam County plans to further spread the culture of active administration and continue to develop and implement various policies to improve the quality of life for residents. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will award Haenam County with a commendation and incentives, and plans to share this best practice with local governments nationwide to help spread active administration.
