Daejeon Transportation Corporation announced that it has completed and officially launched the "Innovative Technology Demonstration Project for Ultrafine Dust Reduction" installed in the city subway stations.
On the 24th, the corporation held a public R&D performance demonstration event at Seodaejeonnegeori Station of Daejeon Metro, hosted by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, to promote the dissemination of technological development achievements.
The ultrafine dust reduction technology being developed by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials improves upon the issues of ozone generation in conventional filter and electrostatic precipitator methods, offering a differentiated, low-cost, eco-friendly air purification method (Passive). It applies filterless electrostatic precipitation technology, low energy and low ozone generation, and a dry cleaning method.
Since 2022, the corporation has operated the Daejeon Station Ultrafine Dust ZERO Living Lab in cooperation with the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, and has continuously supported demonstration research, including designing, manufacturing, and installing a prototype for demonstration in 2023.
Last year, after expanding the installation and demonstration tests of the device (low-ozone electrostatic precipitator), performance tests were successfully completed at six mainline ventilation rooms of Daejeon Metro. It is expected to help improve the health of citizens using the metro and on-site workers.
Park Pilwoo, Technical Director of Daejeon Transportation Corporation, said, "We are actively supporting the demonstration project for ultrafine dust reduction technology to protect the health of citizens and employees and to create a pleasant underground environment," adding, "We will continue to support various research and development efforts to improve air quality in Daejeon Metro in cooperation with public research institutions."
