Incheon Songdo Landmark City Development Project on Track... Development Plan Amendment Approved

The development plan amendment for the central area of Districts 6 and 8 in Songdo International City, Incheon, has passed government review.

According to the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority on the 24th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a Free Economic Zone Committee meeting on the 20th and approved the amendment to the Songdo Districts 6 and 8 Landmark City development plan.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority signed a basic agreement with Bluecore PFV, the project implementer scheduled for May 2023, and has been undergoing the permit procedures for the development plan amendment since June last year, successfully passing this review. As a result, the development project, which had been stalled for 17 years since the 2008 financial crisis, is now back on track.

The amendment to the development plan focuses on rearranging land use plans to create a city centered on international business and tourism/leisure, securing east-west transportation connections and pedestrian pathways.

At Songdo Dalbit Festival Park Station on Incheon Subway Line 1, commercial land will be concentrated to attract the Korean World Trade Center, Startup Park 2, Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others. Additionally, the originally planned large single-block mixed-use residential and commercial land (site for the Landmark Tower) will be distributed to introduce the Landmark Tower, commercial facilities, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities.

The coastal residential land is also planned to be changed into a recreational area equipped with leisure and tourism infrastructure such as an aquarium and musical fountains. Furthermore, a street mall (1.5 km) connecting Dalbit Festival Park Station to the recreational area and two east-west connecting roads will be newly constructed, and part of the sports facility land will be converted into a cultural park.

An official from the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority stated, "The long-awaited Songdo Districts 6 and 8 development project has now been put on the right track," adding, "We plan to proceed with subsequent administrative procedures such as designating the project implementer and changing the implementation plan."
