Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong urged on the 24th, "Prime Minister Han Ducksoo should immediately appoint Judge Ma Eunhyeok."
Through a post on Facebook that day, Mayor Kang stated, "Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, who has returned to office as acting president after the impeachment motion was dismissed, should apologize to the public for failing to prevent the unconstitutional and illegal martial law before resuming his duties," and added, "He should immediately appoint Judge Ma Eunhyeok as a promise to uphold the Constitution."
The Constitutional Court dismissed the National Assembly's impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han that day. Prime Minister Han resumed his duties as acting president immediately after the Constitutional Court's ruling.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Korea and six other opposition parties passed the impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han on December 27 last year, citing five reasons including his refusal to appoint a Constitutional Court judge.
