Lee Jaemyung Criticizes, "Can Violating Constitutional Duties Be Forgiven?"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed doubt that "the public will accept" the National Assembly's dismissal of the impeachment motion against Han Deok-soo, Acting President and Prime Minister (hereinafter Acting President).

At the Supreme Council meeting held on the 24th at the Democratic Party's tent office in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, Lee said, "We cannot help but respect the (Constitutional Court's) decision," but added this sentiment. He defined the Constitutional Court's ruling as "a judgment that it did not reach the level of impeachment for an act that clearly and intentionally violated constitutional duties."
Lee said, "The public is subject to sanctions and punishments under criminal law provisions or the Food Sanitation Act," and asked, "But is it forgivable for the Acting President to explicitly, intentionally, and maliciously violate the constitutional duty of forming constitutional institutions clearly stipulated by the Constitution?" He added, "I believe our people will make a judgment on this point."
On the same day, Lee also urged the Constitutional Court to swiftly remove President Yoon from office. Citing the Jeju Island martial law under the Rhee Syngman administration and the Gwangju May 18 incident, he said, "During the December 3 martial law incident, plans were made to kill 5,000 to 10,000 people, and all kinds of killing methods were devised."
He stated, "In this grave situation where martial law could start again, it is utterly difficult to accept the Constitutional Court's continuous postponement of the verdict date," and added, "The party is in a situation where it cannot avoid taking abnormal measures such as the tent office."
He further emphasized, "Serious divisions have drawn battle lines among the people, and beyond psychological civil war, physical civil war is also continuously anticipated," and said, "Only a swift verdict can end the ongoing chaos and be the starting point for normalizing the Republic of Korea."
Meanwhile, as an extension of street politics, the Democratic Party plans to set up a tent office in front of Gwanghwamun starting today and use it as a base for various meetings such as the Supreme Council meeting, party decision-making, and assemblies.
