Dongdaemun-gu Signs Agreement with Kyung Hee University and University of Seoul to Prepare for High School Credit System Implementation

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) signed a tripartite business agreement on March 21 with Kyung Hee University (President Jinsang Kim) and the University of Seoul (President Yonggeol Won) to establish the foundation for the "2025 High School Credit System."

The high school credit system, which will be fully implemented starting this year, allows students to select and complete subjects according to their career paths and aptitudes.

This agreement was made to share the infrastructure and professional educational expertise possessed by local universities with the community, providing students with various learning and experiential opportunities beyond the school curriculum. Through mutual cooperation among the signatory institutions, active support will be provided to create a student-centered educational environment. In particular, university department programs hold great significance as a foundation for the successful establishment of the high school credit system.

Through this, high school students will be helped to explore their career paths more concretely and to independently plan their learning.

The main contents include ▲administrative and budget support for operating university department experience programs ▲promotion of projects linked to the high school credit system ▲development of university experience programs and support for spaces ▲collaborative projects to improve students' academic achievement.

Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "I am grateful to the two universities for joining us to make Dongdaemun-gu a great educational city for raising children," and added, "We will actively support students to adapt well to the changing education system and explore various career paths."

The district plans to continuously expand programs linked to the high school credit system and creative experiential activities in consultation with each university. Through this agreement, Kyung Hee University will first operate experience programs related to the Department of Korean Medicine, and the University of Seoul will run programs related to the Department of Taxation and the Department of Environmental Engineering, with plans to gradually increase participating departments thereafter.
