Arklink, a digital crime response specialist company, recently warned that bodycam phishing methods targeting iCloud account information are on the rise and urged iPhone users to exercise extra caution.
Although the iPhone boasts high security, Arklink stated that if an iCloud account is leaked due to user negligence, bodycam phishing damage can occur, leading to video distribution threats and financial extortion.
According to Arklink, recently, bodycam phishing criminals approach victims through SNS or chat apps to build intimacy, induce obscene conversations, and then prompt the installation of specific apps. During this process, they request iCloud account information, and if the account is hijacked, videos and personal information are handed over to the criminals. Subsequently, the victim is threatened with financial extortion under the pretext of video distribution.
In an actual case, a victim was induced to install an app by a woman met on a random chat app who said, "There are photos in my album." When an error occurred, she offered to install it instead and requested the iCloud account information. Later, videos and photos stored on the victim’s device were leaked, and based on this, the victim was threatened with financial extortion amounting to tens of millions of won.
An Arklink official emphasized, “Although iPhones are known to have a lower hacking risk than Android devices, if the iCloud account is exposed externally, the security advantages become useless,” adding, “Users should avoid installing apps or clicking links from unknown sources and must enable iCloud two-factor authentication.”
Arklink currently provides bodycam phishing damage response solutions based on various technologies such as real-time video distribution detection, perpetrator access blocking, and communication path analysis, and supports 24-hour emergency response and security consulting in case of damage.
