Riding the wave of anticipation for Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature, a reading craze is sweeping through Gwangju as renowned writers from various fields gather in the city.

The Gwangju City Library (Mudeung, Sajik, Sansu) announced on the 24th that it will host a series of lectures by various invited authors until April, aiming to make Gwangju a city where people read and buy many books.

In particular, the city library will operate special author invitation lectures in April, as it coincides with the city's representative library festival, the "Library Culture Madang," as well as "Library Week" and "Library Day." These events are designed to provide opportunities for citizens and writers to engage in conversations on special topics.

On April 5th at 2 p.m., the 13th "Library Culture Madang," Gwangju's representative library festival, will be held at the City Hall Citizen Hall. The event will feature an invited lecture by Ko Myunghwan, a former comedian and bestselling author of books such as "The Classics Answered: On the Life We Ought to Live." Ko will speak about reading methods for living a self-directed life.

Following Ko's lecture, there will be a talk by Lee Jieun, a picture book author beloved by young readers. Lee has published various picture books, including "Chuchuchu" and "The Legend of a Friend," and has won the prestigious Bologna Ragazzi Award in children's literature. She will discuss the process of creating her works and the worldviews of her characters.

On April 12th, marking the start of "Library Week," Sajik Library will host a lecture by Moon Kyungmin, recipient of the Kwon Jeongsaeng Literary Award and the Honbul Literary Award. Moon's lecture, held at 2 p.m. in the third-floor book cafe of Sajik Library, will be themed "There Is Pain the World Must Know." The author will share stories about the life of a novelist, the creation of literary works, and the creative process with Gwangju citizens.

On April 18th, Baek Surin will give an invited lecture at Mudeung Library. Baek will explore her book "Brilliant Regards" and discuss her life as a writer in a two-hour session starting at 2 p.m. in the first-floor conference room of Mudeung Library. Baek received the Hyundai Literature Award and the Hankook Ilbo Literary Award in 2020. Her major works include "Brilliant Regards" and "Summer Villa."

Previously, on the 20th, Choi Yongseon gave a lecture at the third-floor book cafe of Sajik Library. Choi, author of "Negotiation That Beats Trump," delivered a talent-donation lecture on "The Essence of Negotiation and Successful Alternatives Through Case Studies."

Song Kyunghee, director of Gwangju City Library, said, "We hope that these author invitation lectures will give citizens opportunities to communicate with writers from various fields and make reading a part of their daily lives," adding, "We will continue our efforts to sustain the culture of 'Reading Gwangju' this year as well."

Meanwhile, following Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature, Gwangju City Library has increased the book borrowing limit to 10 books and is operating various programs such as reading Han Kang's works, literary readings, and special lectures by renowned figures.
