On the 21st, SK Broadband announced on the 24th that it signed a contract for the international submarine cable construction consortium 'E2A (East Asia To North America)' connecting four countries including the United States, Japan, and Taiwan in Seoul.

In this consortium, SK Broadband is participating solely from Korea, alongside Japan's SoftBank and Taiwan's Tsinghua Telecom.

The total length of the E2A submarine cable crossing the Pacific Ocean is 12,500 km, connecting major digital hubs in Asia and the United States such as Busan in Korea, Maruyama in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, Toucheng in Yilan County, Taiwan, and Morro Bay in California, USA.

The E2A submarine cable will apply the latest transmission technology to provide data processing capacity of 16 terabits per second (Tbps) from Korea to the United States. This speed allows 660,000 subscribers to simultaneously watch UHD quality (25 Mbps) videos and download 500 full HD (4 GB) movies in one second.

SK Broadband plans to complete the E2A submarine cable in the second half of 2028 and provide commercial services. It is expected to play an important role in stably handling the rapidly increasing demand for international internet traffic upon opening. It will not only strengthen global business competitiveness such as international dedicated lines but also lay the foundation to leap forward as an Asian network hub.

Ham Min-yong, head of SK Broadband's AI DC division, said, "Through participation in the E2A submarine cable, we expect to greatly enhance service stability and scalability to meet various demands in the AI era," adding, "We will continue to do our best to secure future growth engines."
