Efforts to Support Recovery from Wildfire Damage in Sancheong County
As of 3:30 PM on the 22nd, a severe wildfire disaster alert has been issued across the entire Gyeongnam region, resulting in extensive damage to date.
In response, Jinju City is strengthening its wildfire prevention and response posture and is making efforts to provide rapid recovery and support for affected residents in Sancheong County, a neighboring area impacted by the fire.
Jinju City has convened a situation assessment meeting and is currently operating the Jinju City Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to respond swiftly to the wildfire disaster. A rapid response system has been activated to prevent further spread of the wildfire.
First, Jinju City issued emergency duty orders to its staff for wildfire prevention and response, and instructed all townships and districts within its jurisdiction to enhance wildfire monitoring activities, enabling early detection and response to potential outbreaks. In addition, the city quickly disseminated wildfire-related alerts to residents to ensure thorough prevention of damage.

At the same time, Jinju City is closely cooperating with the wildfire-affected areas in Sancheong County, closely monitoring the situation and maintaining a system to provide immediate support as needed.
To aid recovery and protect residents in the neighboring Sancheong County, on March 21, Jinju City's wildfire suppression team and public officials were dispatched to the site to assist with firefighting efforts. On the 22nd, Jinju City provided relief supplies such as blankets, bread, cup noodles, and beverages to support recovery in Sancheong County.
The Jinju City Volunteer Organizations Council visited the Seonbi Culture Research Institute in Sancheong County to encourage volunteers engaged in wildfire recovery efforts.
The Jinju City Volunteer Organizations Council stated that it will continue to stand in solidarity with the local community and spare no effort in supporting disaster recovery, striving to ensure a smooth recovery process.
On March 23, the Jinju City branch of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association served meals at the Dansung Middle School shelter in Sancheong County as part of disaster relief activities, providing warm meals for affected residents and volunteers.
Meanwhile, Jinju City is continuously monitoring the situation in regions at risk of wildfire spread, particularly Sugok-myeon and Naedong-myeon. As the wildfire spreads, Jinju City is prioritizing the safety of residents in areas adjacent to Sancheong County by operating Jinseo Middle School in Sugok-myeon as an emergency shelter and providing additional relief supplies, including daily necessities, for evacuees.
Amid these wildfire suppression volunteer activities, Jinju City Mayor Cho Gyu-il visited the shelters at Jinseo Middle School in Sugok-myeon and Dansung Middle School in Sancheong County to encourage affected residents and volunteers.
Mayor Cho inspected the relief supply support with volunteers and spoke with residents. He stated, "I hope this brings at least some comfort to residents enduring these difficult circumstances," and added, "Jinju City will continue its efforts for recovery and support for residents."
Additionally, Mayor Cho communicated directly with volunteers on-site to listen to their difficulties and discussed immediate measures for areas requiring additional support.
The Gyeongnam Mayors and Governors Association also plans to continue providing necessary support for the swift recovery of wildfire-affected areas, not only in Sancheong County but also in neighboring regions, strengthening cooperation and enhancing disaster response and recovery systems.
