To this end, the city formed an inspection team jointly with six agricultural and marine product origin labeling monitors.

The inspection team will visit each restaurant and cafeteria to check compliance with origin labeling for 29 agricultural, livestock, and marine product items and promote correct origin labeling methods.

The agricultural products subject to origin labeling include three items: napa cabbage kimchi (napa cabbage and red pepper powder), rice, and soybeans. The livestock products include six items: cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks, sheep, and goats.

The marine products subject to inspection include 20 items: flatfish, rockfish, red seabream, loach, eel, octopus, pollock, mackerel, hairtail, squid, blue crab, yellow croaker, tuna, anglerfish, webfoot octopus, scallops, freshwater snails, abalone, yellowtail, and flatfish (buse).

The inspection team will also check whether the labeling standards are followed so that consumers can verify the origin, as well as whether receipts or transaction statements for livestock products are kept.

Minor violations found during the inspection will be corrected on the spot.

Violations such as false, confusing, or disguised origin labeling will be subject to administrative actions such as complaints or fines ranging from 50,000 to 10 million KRW in accordance with the “Act on the Labeling of Origin of Agricultural and Marine Products.”

Seongnam City conducts annual inspections of origin labeling in restaurants to raise awareness among business operators and guarantee consumers’ right to know about their food.
