Wildfires Rage, and Strong Winds to Return Starting Tomorrow

Hot and dry weather until Wednesday... 'Nationwide rain' expected only on the 27th Yonhap News

Until Wednesday the 26th of next week, temperatures will be significantly higher and the weather will remain dry compared to usual.

From Monday the 24th, strong winds will blow again, making wildfire suppression difficult.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 23rd, humidity in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do and Jeju dropped to 4% and 9% respectively at one point. This was the second lowest humidity recorded in these areas since meteorological observations began in March.

As of 5:45 PM, most inland areas, excluding the coast, are maintaining humidity levels below 25%.

In Sancheong, Gyeongsangnam-do, where a large wildfire occurred, the effective humidity was only 36.76% as of 11 PM the previous day.

Effective humidity, calculated based on relative humidity over five days, indicates how dry trees and vegetation are, and generally, levels below 50% are considered prone to large fires.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's mid-term forecast, the nearest expected nationwide rainfall is on the 27th.

Due to the influence of a pressure trough, precipitation on the southern coast of Jeollanam-do and western Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeju will be minimal, around 5 mm (Jeju) or about 1 mm (southern coast) from late dawn to morning on the 24th.
