Changwon's First and Second Vice Mayors Inspect Wildfire Preparedness
and Encourage Wildfire Monitors
Jang Geumyong, the First Vice Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, and Cho Myungrae, the Second Vice Mayor, inspected the wildfire prevention measures and initial response readiness of the five district offices from the 22nd to the 23rd.
This inspection was organized in response to the occurrence of large-scale wildfires in neighboring cities and counties, as well as the issuance of a "Severe" national wildfire disaster crisis alert.
Vice Mayor Jang and Vice Mayor Cho visited the wildfire situation rooms and guard posts of the five district offices, checked wildfire prevention publicity activities and the response plans according to the manual in case of a wildfire, and visited the wildfire response team waiting rooms to encourage the frontline wildfire monitors and listen to their difficulties.
Meanwhile, Changwon City is intensively conducting publicity, guidance, and enforcement to prevent wildfires caused by carelessness such as burning agricultural by-products and garbage. The city is also thoroughly informing the public about wildfire prevention rules, including prohibiting the possession of fire-starting materials by visitors, restricting cooking and smoking, and banning the disposal of cigarette butts.
The city will also strengthen pre-inspections of wildfire-prone areas through towns and neighborhoods, pre-designate evacuation sites, and establish a system to ensure residents' safety in advance. In addition, Changwon will establish a rapid cooperation system with related agencies to ensure a thorough response to wildfires.
