U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin is an important factor in negotiations to end the Ukraine war.
According to Bloomberg on the 22nd (local time), President Trump said in an interview with the conservative media outlet 'Outkick' that "I believe I am the only person in the world who can stop Putin."
President Trump said he knows President Putin very well, explaining, "When I was president, he did not invade anywhere, but during the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama, he invaded Georgia and occupied the Crimean Peninsula."
Earlier, on the 18th, President Trump had a phone call with President Putin. At that time, President Putin expressed willingness to halt attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities but did not agree to the full ceasefire demanded by the U.S.
President Trump said, "If we can stop the war, it would be a truly great thing," adding, "There is no one else who can do this."
