'Tractor Rally to Seoul' Demanding Yoon's Dismissal on the 25th
Concerns Over Clashes With Taegeukgi Rally Supporters
The National Peasants' Federation (Jeonnong) has once again announced a 'Tractor Rally to Seoul' on the 25th, calling for the dismissal of President Yoon Seok-yeol, raising concerns about potential physical clashes with supporters of President Yoon.
According to the police and Jeonnong on the 23rd, the 'Jeon Bong-jun Struggle Group' under Jeonnong reported to the police the day before that they will mobilize 20 tractors and 50 1-ton trucks for the rally in Seoul on the 25th.
According to the 'Seoul Re-advance Guidelines' announced by the Jeon Bong-jun Struggle Group, they will gather at Namtaeryeong in Seocho-gu at 2 p.m. to hold a 'Resolution Rally for the Immediate Dismissal of President Yoon,' followed by a two-hour tractor march toward Gwanghwamun starting at 3 p.m. From 7 p.m., they will also participate in the Pan-Citizen Grand March.
The police are reportedly preparing for the possibility that the Jeon Bong-jun Struggle Group may hold an overnight sit-in near Gwanghwamun or the Constitutional Court until the date for the impeachment ruling is announced. Kang Soon-jung, Jeonnong's Policy Committee Chair, told Yonhap News, "There is a strong sentiment among citizens that 'this cannot continue as it is,'" adding, "We hope the situation will be resolved on the day if possible, but if the Constitutional Court delays the ruling repeatedly, various discussions will be necessary."
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency views this rally as potentially directly affecting the safety of both participants and the general public, and has requested Jeonnong to exercise restraint. They have also kept the option open to ban the rally if Jeonnong refuses to comply.
