Scheduled to Return on the 17th, but Lost Contact While Traveling
22-Vehicle Pileup on Highway Due to Winter Storm at the Time

Three Korean female tourists traveling in the Grand Canyon area of the western United States have been reported missing for ten days.

On the 22nd (local time), CNN and others reported that the Coconino County Sheriff's Office in Arizona has not been able to trace the whereabouts of three Korean travelers, including Lee (33), since the 13th.

Lee, Kim (59), and another Kim (54) are family members, and it appears they were traveling from the Grand Canyon toward Las Vegas on the 13th.

At the time of their disappearance, they were riding in a 2024 white BMW rental car with California license plates. They were originally scheduled to finish their trip and return to Korea on the 17th, but contact was lost, and their family members in Korea reportedly reported them to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others.

The GPS location of the vehicle they were in was last detected on the 40th state highway between the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas on the 13th.

At that time, a winter storm covered the highway with snow and ice, causing a 22-vehicle chain collision involving several passenger cars and tractors, resulting in 2 deaths and 16 injuries.

However, the sheriff's office stated that it is unknown whether the vehicle was involved in the accident. The sheriff's office urged, "If anyone has contacted them or knows their whereabouts since the 13th, please get in touch."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs dispatched a consul to the scene and requested a prompt and thorough investigation from U.S. investigative authorities, while also supporting the families of the missing.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The local embassy has been providing necessary consular assistance since becoming aware of the incident," and "We are closely cooperating with local police to search for the missing persons."
