Jeollanam-do has decided to strengthen quarantine management at both the outbreak area and the provincial level starting from the 24th to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
First, the movement of cattle from farms where foot-and-mouth disease has occurred and from Yeongam-gun will be prohibited. Only slaughter shipments of Hanwoo cattle from Yeongam will be allowed, while shipments to livestock markets and transactions between farms will be banned until the end of this month.
Additionally, all livestock vehicles (such as those transporting feed or animals) carrying cloven-hoofed animals (cattle, pigs, goats, deer, etc.) in the Yeongam area must operate only within designated zones. Vehicles entering outbreak farms will be separately designated and must pass through disinfection facilities before and after arrival; they are not allowed to enter the farm directly.
All vehicles entering livestock farms in Jeollanam-do must pass through a designated disinfection facility and receive a disinfection certificate before entering the farm. Unnecessary vehicles and people are strictly prohibited from entering the farm, and all entries must be disinfected at the entrance with a high-pressure sprayer or similar equipment.
Jeollanam-do has communicated these strengthened quarantine guidelines to farms through city and county offices, producer organizations such as the Hanwoo Association, Dairy and Beef Cattle Association, and Korea Pork Producers Association, as well as via text messages to the relevant farms.
Park Hyunsik, Director of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Jeollanam-do, requested, "Please thoroughly implement the strengthened quarantine measures at both the outbreak area and provincial level, and reinforce farm-level biosecurity by conducting daily disinfection, clinical inspections, and controlling the entry of livestock vehicles."
As of 8 a.m. on the 23rd, there have been a total of 13 cases of foot-and-mouth disease: 12 in Yeongam and 1 in Muan.
