Song Miryeong Meets Vietnamese Agriculture Minister, "Expecting Broad Agricultural Cooperation"

Song Miryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, announced on the 22nd that on the 21st, she met with Do Duc Duy, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, to discuss ways to expand exports of agricultural products and animal pharmaceuticals, as well as agricultural technology exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.


An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated, "Vietnam is a rapidly growing country aiming for 8% economic growth this year, and it is a very important time to further expand the market based on the high recognition of Korean agricultural products and agricultural machinery among locals." He added, "The two countries agreed to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields such as expanding agricultural trade, transferring agricultural technology, and advancing smart agriculture companies based on the comprehensive strategic partnership."

In particular, Minister Song discussed ways to expand exports of K-Food Plus(+) items such as Korean fruits like tangerines and kiwis, animal pharmaceuticals, and heat-treated poultry meat, and requested active cooperation from the Vietnamese side. The Vietnamese side showed deep interest in K-Food items such as apples, grapes, soju, and Korean smart farms and agricultural technology. They also expressed hope for continuous discussions through various channels between the two countries, including agricultural cooperation memorandums of understanding (MOUs). At this meeting, Minister Song also requested support and participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Food Security Ministerial Meeting (August, Incheon) and the summit meeting (October, Gyeongju) to be held in Korea.


On the 22nd, Minister Song visited an agricultural product processing facility established through the Korean government’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) project to inspect the site and had time to communicate directly with Vietnamese farmers.


This facility is a key hub that stores, sorts, and processes carrots and melons produced in villages such as Roisa Village and distributes them nationwide. The head of the Deokjin Cooperative operating this project said, "Through Korea’s Official Development Assistance project, the quality of agricultural products has improved, which has increased sales volume and the income of local farmers." He expressed gratitude, saying, "Many local farmers are thankful to Korea and hope that Vietnam and Korea will continue to have active exchanges in the future."


In response, Minister Song said, "Last July, the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture visited Korea and requested a return visit, and I am honored to be able to respond to that." She added, "I look forward to continuing broader agricultural cooperation with Vietnam."
