Statement Differs from "Impulsive Crime During Marital Dispute"
Charge Changed from Injury Resulting in Death to Murder
A famous real estate instructor who died after being hit by a liquor bottle wielded by his wife last month was found to have been unilaterally attacked by his wife while lying down, leading to his death.
On the 22nd, Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for a woman in her 50s, Ms. A, on charges including murder, according to Yonhap News. Ms. A is accused of repeatedly hitting her husband, Mr. B, with a liquor bottle at their apartment residence in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, around 3 a.m. on the 15th of last month.

Initially, the police viewed Ms. A’s act as an impulsive crime committed during a marital quarrel and applied for an arrest warrant on charges of injury resulting in death, but it was dismissed. Subsequently, after supplementary investigation, the police concluded that Ms. A suddenly attacked Mr. B, who was lying down, based on the state of blood splatter on Mr. B. Additionally, the National Forensic Service recently informed the police that the autopsy of Mr. B’s body showed "skull fractures and defensive wounds." Accordingly, the police changed Ms. A’s charge from injury resulting in death to murder and reapplied for the arrest warrant. Injury resulting in death carries a sentence of at least three years of imprisonment, but murder can result in a heavier sentence such as the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for five years or more.
Ms. A is known to deny the charges, stating, "I was angry because my husband demanded a divorce. He was drunk and threatened me first with abusive language." Ms. A reported the crime to the police herself immediately after the incident and was arrested. Mr. B was transported to the hospital and treated but died around 2 p.m. on the day of the incident. He was known as the top instructor in the field of real estate public law.
The pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) for Ms. A is scheduled to take place on the 24th of this month at the Pyeongtaek branch of Suwon District Court.
