Operation of the "Odong-dong Hot-Line Without Welfare Blind Spots"
The Odong-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, is operating the "Odong-dong Hot-Line Without Welfare Blind Spots" until December as part of efforts to address the increasingly problematic issue of lonely deaths in society.
This Odong-dong Hot-Line Without Welfare Blind Spots project utilizes the social welfare administrative system "Haengbokeum" to identify households suspected of lonely deaths due to reasons such as power or water shutoff and various unpaid bills. The local community leaders and Community Security Council members first visit and consult with these households. High-risk individuals identified through these visits are then provided with customized support through public-private cooperation.
The first phase of activities took place from December last year to January, and the second phase from February to March, during which 110 households received goods and public support (emergency welfare, basic livelihood security).
Choi Kyungcheol, head of Odong-dong, stated, "Due to changes in society, the family caregiving function has weakened, resulting in a significant increase in neighbors living alone without anyone noticing. Through the public-private partnership project, the operation of the Odong-dong Hot-Line, we will do our utmost to make Odong-dong a safe community without lonely deaths."
