This entry follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Yangju City and the Vietnamese government in January, and it is expected to further strengthen Yangju's agricultural labor supply system.
The workers who arrived on the 20th will complete essential training courses such as fire safety education and drug prevention education before being assigned to each farm to carry out full-scale agricultural activities.
Yangju City is currently operating a foreign seasonal worker program in cooperation with various countries including Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
As a result of continuous efforts to resolve the chronic labor shortage in rural areas, it has been confirmed that a total of 280 foreign seasonal workers, including the newly arrived Vietnamese workers, have been deployed to farms in Yangju so far.
In particular, the first arrival of these Vietnamese workers signifies that Yangju City's foreign seasonal worker program has entered a full-scale expansion phase.
The city expects that the inflow of multinational labor will further enhance the competitiveness of Yangju's agriculture.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that a 'win-win model' will be established, where farms can stably secure skilled labor, and workers are provided with stable jobs and working environments.
Meanwhile, the city plans to strengthen customized support policies to frequently check the deployment status of workers in close cooperation with farmers and to resolve operational difficulties.
Additionally, to ensure workers can settle stably, the city intends to establish a virtuous cycle structure benefiting both farms and workers by preparing multifaceted support measures such as improving working conditions, administrative support, and expanding educational programs.
A Yangju City official stated, “The foreign seasonal worker program is one of the key policies to enhance the sustainability of agriculture,” and added, “We will continue to prepare various support measures for stable labor supply and workers' welfare and build a more systematic management system.”
