This video features Professor Song Widuok from Kyungil University, who explains the importance of communication between parents and children, and practically delivers age-appropriate conversation methods and ways to communicate with empathy.
With a total running time of 22 minutes and 44 seconds, the video is structured to be engaging and easy to understand using various examples.
The Ulsan Office of Education has made the video available on social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram so that students and parents can easily access it.
In the video, Professor Song Widuok emphasized, "Communication between parents and children is not just a conversation but a connection of emotions and hearts," adding, "The attitude parents take in conversations greatly influences the formation of a child's self-concept."
He also advised, "While parents should actively express affection and communicate when their children are young, as children grow, parents need to practice stepping back to allow them to think and make decisions on their own."
He particularly stressed the importance of genuine empathy, saying, "True communication is only possible when empathy is provided without parental expectations and standards," and explained, "If concern or advice follows empathy, children may become defensive."
He added, "A good relationship with your child does not only come from being close, but sometimes it can be more helpful to maintain an appropriate distance and acknowledge your child's personal space."
An official from the Ulsan Office of Education stated, "We hope this video will serve as an opportunity for parents and students to understand each other more deeply and communicate smoothly," and added, "We will continue to provide useful productions that offer practical help to students and parents."
