Active Promotion of Screening Participation
Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 21st that it will operate Tuberculosis Prevention Week from the 23rd to the 29th in celebration of the "15th Tuberculosis Prevention Day (March 14th)."
During this Tuberculosis Prevention Week, Hanam City plans to carry out various promotional activities such as distributing promotional materials containing information on tuberculosis testing, treatment methods, and prevention guidelines, as well as conducting street campaigns to raise awareness and vigilance about tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis is a respiratory infectious disease transmitted through coughing, sneezing, or talking by patients with contagious tuberculosis. Major symptoms include a cough lasting more than 2 to 3 weeks, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. If these symptoms persist, it is important to undergo tuberculosis screening for early detection and treatment. Infectiousness disappears about 2 to 3 weeks after taking tuberculosis medication, and early detection through screening and appropriate treatment are key to preventing transmission.
Hanam City conducts free tuberculosis screening once a year for seniors aged 65 and older, and citizens with suspected tuberculosis symptoms can also receive free screening by visiting the public health center.
Additionally, to encourage participation in screening, the city plans to use various promotional media to inform local residents about the importance of tuberculosis prevention and screening.
Park Kang-yong, Director of Hanam City Public Health Center, said, "Tuberculosis is a disease where prevention and treatment are crucial, and early detection and proper treatment play a key role in blocking transmission," adding, "Through this Tuberculosis Prevention Week, we will focus on promoting awareness so that citizens can be vigilant about tuberculosis and participate more actively in health management."
