A male fox found by tennis enthusiasts in downtown Jeonju, Jeonbuk, has become the new family member of Jeonju Zoo.
According to Jeonju Zoo on the 20th, on the morning of the 11th of last month, a report was received that "a fox is roaming" at the tennis courts in Deokjin Sports Park, Jeonju City. The Jeonju City Animal Capture Team and Animal Protection Team captured the fox. The fox was a marble fox, a hybrid breed of the red fox, weighing 5.24 kg at the time of discovery. The city presumed that the fox, born last year, was either lost or abandoned by someone who had been raising it.

Since the marble fox is not classified as an internationally endangered species, private adoption was possible. However, considering various factors such as illegal breeding and ownership disputes, high adoption fees, difficulty in care, and the possibility of re-abandonment, the city judged that adoption by a general household was not appropriate and decided to admit the fox to Jeonju Zoo. Along with this, the fox was named "Yeoryeong," meaning "may you spend the rest of your life happily."
The zoo checked Yeoryeong's health condition, prepared a habitat, and opened it to the public starting this week. Kim Jong-dae, director of Jeonju Zoo, said, "We welcome the family that came with the new spring and will take care of it with all our devotion."
