Daejeon City Implements 'Pre-Consultation System for Public Facility Design'

Daejeon City announced that it will fully implement the 'Preliminary Design Consultation System' starting in March to enhance the design quality of public facilities and elevate the city's dignity to a higher level.

The city plans to select outstanding designs for major public facilities closely related to citizens' daily lives, such as bridges, nightscapes, and sculptures, through a design competition. For other facilities, a one-on-one matching with a public designer will be arranged to provide continuous consultation from the planning stage to completion.

To this end, 12 public designers specializing in six fields?architecture, sculpture, color, environment, industry, and lighting?have been appointed, and public design consulting and advisory services are being provided for public design projects with a budget of over 50 million won.

Public designers will actively participate in all stages, from the basic concept phase to data collection, project planning, budget allocation, design and basic design, detailed design, and from groundbreaking to completion.

The city has revised procedures to ensure that all public facilities funded by the city receive consultation from public designers from the planning stage, and has produced and distributed manuals to help relevant departments better understand the process.

A city official stated, "Through the implementation of the Preliminary Design Consultation System, we plan to further enhance the level of public design in the city and strengthen urban competitiveness."
