Large-Cap Stocks Tumble:
Hanwha Aerospace Plunges 13%,
HLB Hits Lower Price Limit
On the 21st, both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ indices started slightly lower. Volatility among large-cap stocks such as Hanwha Aerospace and HLB increased from the early trading session.
On that day, the KOSPI opened at 2,633.90, down 0.12% from the previous day. As of 9:28 AM, it recorded 2,624.31.
In the KOSPI market, foreigners were the sole net buyers, purchasing 184 billion KRW worth of shares. Individuals and institutions were net sellers, offloading 81 billion KRW and 113 billion KRW respectively.
Many sectors declined. The transportation equipment and parts sector saw the largest drop at -3.04%. This was followed by metals (-2.56%), chemicals (-1.49%), paper and wood (-1.17%), and insurance (-1.15%), all falling more than 1%. Meanwhile, electricity and gas (0.80%), pharmaceuticals (0.69%), and electrical and electronics (0.60%) sectors rose.
Among the top 10 large-cap stocks, SK Hynix posted the largest gain at 2.6%. This was followed by Samsung Electronics (1.2%), Celltrion (0.5%), Samsung Biologics (0.4%), and NAVER (0.2%). Hanwha Aerospace fell sharply by -13.4%. LG Energy Solution (-13.4%) and KB Financial Group (-1.3%) also declined.
The KOSDAQ also opened slightly lower at 724.94, down 0.03%. As of 9:28 AM, the decline deepened to 717.43.
In the KOSDAQ market, institutions were the sole net buyers, purchasing 30.9 billion KRW worth of shares. Foreigners and individuals were net sellers, offloading 3.1 billion KRW and 19.1 billion KRW respectively.
Almost all sectors were in decline. The pharmaceutical sector experienced the largest drop at -4.45%. Construction (-1.81%), transportation equipment and parts (-1.77%), manufacturing (-1.48%), finance (-1.18%), and metals (-1.15%) followed with strong declines. Only publishing and media reproduction (1.35%), entertainment and culture (0.72%), and general services (0.19%) showed gains.
Among the top 10 large-cap stocks, HLB’s decline was notable. It opened down to the price limit at -29.97% and continued to show a drop exceeding 206%. EcoPro BM (-3.1%), Rainbow Robotics (-2.1%), and EcoPro (-1.9%) also fell. On the other hand, Samchundang Pharm (2.0%), Ligachem Bio (1.7%), Alteogen (1.3%), and Classys (1.0%) rose.
