Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon expressed a skeptical stance on the impeachment push against Acting President Choi Sang-mok on the 21st.
In a phone interview with CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' that day, Governor Kim said, "The fact that Acting President Choi did not appoint Ma Eun-hyuk as a Constitutional Court Justice nominee is grounds for impeachment, but given the current political and political situation, is going to impeachment necessarily advantageous?" He added, "I am somewhat skeptical about whether it is the most desirable path in this unstable state administration situation."
He continued, "I want to urge Acting President Choi to act boldly as an acting president who looks after the people and the country, not as an acting president of the ruling party, by taking measures such as appointing nominee Ma."
Regarding the passage of the National Pension Act, which was agreed upon by both ruling and opposition parties under the principle of 'pay more, receive more,' Governor Kim evaluated it as "a temporary measure and regrettable," rating it as "a passing score, 60 points."
He also expressed concern, saying, "We should have looked at the basic pension and retirement pension as a package and considered structural reform together," and "There may be issues of shifting more burden and responsibility onto future generations and youth."
He added, "Additional pension reform will be inevitable, and I believe youth-centered governance is necessary," and "The management of the 1,200 trillion won fund should increase alternative investments beyond stocks and bonds to improve returns."
Regarding the controversy over remarks made by Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung and People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo, he responded, "Lawmaker Ahn's remarks were inappropriate as a doctor, and although Leader Lee's words were excessive, I think it reflects how frustrated he must have been with the state of the country."
Earlier, on the 19th, Leader Lee caused controversy with his statement, "Anyone can arrest Acting President Choi Sang-mok as a flagrant offender. I advise caution," while on the same day, Lawmaker Ahn sparked controversy with his Facebook expression, "Lee Jae-myung lying as if dead after being scratched on the neck in Busan."
Regarding measures to prevent violent incidents feared after the impeachment ruling, he said, "President Yoon must first send a clear message of acceptance," adding, "Talking about the other side's acceptance is nonsense."
