8 New, 11 Advanced, and 1 Moduae Village Enterprise Selected
Jeollanam-do announced on the 21st that 20 village enterprises were selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2025 Village Enterprise Promotion Project, marking the highest number nationwide (out of 135).
Village enterprises are fostered at various stages, including new, re-designated, and advanced. Among these, enterprises with strong community performance are designated as excellent village enterprises, while those with strong business performance are fostered as Moduae village enterprises. This year, the selected village enterprises in Jeonnam include 8 new, 11 advanced, and 1 Moduae enterprise.
New village enterprises do not receive direct subsidies, but they are prioritized for public institution purchases and receive indirect support such as product development, market expansion, and professional consulting.
Advanced village enterprises, recognized for operating for more than three years and achieving outstanding results and values as village enterprises, receive 20 million won in project funding for labor costs, operating expenses, and facility expansion.
Moduae village enterprises represent the highest tier among village enterprise stages, and Jeollanam-do has produced such enterprises for six consecutive years. This year, Ttangkkeut Haetsalchan Agricultural Cooperative, selected as a Moduae village enterprise, produces healthy snacks such as sweet potato chips and brown rice choco sand chips using sweet potatoes and rice, specialties of Haenam, and has successfully entered overseas markets. As a result, it will receive 100 million won in project funding to further enhance its competitiveness.
Village enterprises are social economy models directly operated by residents, creating income and jobs by utilizing local resources. Jeollanam-do is actively fostering village enterprises to revitalize the region and address issues such as population decline and local extinction.
To secure selection in this year's competition, Jeollanam-do provided preliminary consulting and education since last year, ensuring thorough preparation. Additionally, customized consulting tailored to individual enterprise needs and support for joint brand development for promising village enterprise alliances contributed to building competitive models, resulting in the highest number of selections nationwide.
There are 208 village enterprises designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in the Jeonnam region, accounting for 11.6% of the 1,800 village enterprises nationwide?the largest share. As of 2023, the total sales of village enterprises in Jeonnam reached 37.3 billion won, with 1,481 employees, making significant contributions to the local economy and community development.
