In Yo-han and Seo Myung-ok, Doctors-Turned Lawmakers, Visit President Yoon's Residence
Rumors of "Health Check" Unfounded, Visit Was to Check on Supporters' Well-being
"Please Stop Fasting"... Also Offers Condolences to Supporter Who Self-immolated
On the 20th, it was revealed that In Yo-han and Seo Myung-ok, members of the People Power Party who are doctors by profession, visited President Yoon Suk-yeol, and it was reported that there were no particular health issues with the president. Shin Dong-wook, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in an interview on CBS Radio's 'Park Jae-hong's One-on-One Match' that day, "I spoke with Representative In," adding, "Since they are doctors, there were rumors that they went in to check the president's health, but that was not the case at all."
Shin said, "(The president) said, 'I hope the doctor-members of the National Assembly can check on the health condition of those who are fasting,' so the two went to the presidential residence," and added, "According to Representative In, 'The president is just living normally and well.'"
He continued, "Today, Representative In and others went to the supporters fasting in front of the Constitutional Court and conveyed the president's message: 'No matter how important the impeachment trial result is, it cannot be more precious than your lives. Please stop fasting as it harms your health,'" and explained, "In response, they said, 'We can still endure it,' so Representative In said, 'If necessary, we will arrange for an ambulance or other measures.'"
Shin emphasized, "This should never be seen as part of the president's residence politics," and added, "He said this because he was very worried something might happen at night," blocking any possibility of overinterpretation.
President Yoon, who is awaiting the Constitutional Court's ruling on the impeachment trial, also expressed condolences to the bereaved family of a supporter who died after attempting self-immolation while distributing leaflets supporting him that day. Earlier, on the 7th, a man criticized the opposition party and the Constitutional Court on the rooftop of the Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul, distributed leaflets with the phrase 'Long live President Yoon Suk-yeol,' and attempted self-immolation, resulting in his death.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Yoon conveyed through aides who visited the deceased's funeral hall set up at a hospital in Seoul, "I respectfully offer my condolences to the bereaved family and will honor the father's wishes well." The aides also reportedly met with the family and said, "The president was truly heartbroken upon hearing the sad news. He read the father's will several times."
