The First Hope Seongnam Talk Concert of the Year: "Happiness"
Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) announced on the 21st that it will invite Professor Emeritus Kim Hyeong-seok of Yonsei University as the first speaker for this year's 'Hope Seongnam Talk Concert' and hold a special lecture by a distinguished figure at Onnuri on the 1st floor of City Hall at 2:50 PM on the 25th.
The theme of the lecture is "Happiness Delivered by a 105-Year-Old Philosopher."
Professor Kim talks about how happiness lies not in the past or future but in the present moment, conveying the message that happiness should be found and enjoyed through the process of growth and effort.
Professor Kim Hyeong-seok was born on April 23, 1920, in Unsan, Pyeonganbuk-do. He attended Soongsil Middle School in Pyongyang and the 3rd Public Middle School before graduating from the Department of Philosophy at Chuo University in Japan. He witnessed liberation in his hometown and moved south in 1947, teaching at Seoul Jungang Middle and High School. Later, he served as a professor in the Department of Philosophy at Yonsei University (1954?1985), a research professor at the University of Chicago, and a research professor at Harvard University.
Professor Kim is a leading scholar representing the philosophy community in South Korea and continues active lecturing and writing activities even at the age of 105.
His publications include "Kim Hyeong-seok, Wisdom of a Century," "Let's Be Happy," and "Having Lived a Hundred Years."
A Seongnam City official said, "Reflecting citizens' wishes to hear a special lecture from an elderly philosopher over a hundred years old, we invited him as the first speaker for this year's Hope Seongnam Talk Concert."
On the day of the lecture, 600 people who completed prior registration will participate.
